Anthony Joshua Reiterates on Provocative ‘Kill’ Statements Aimed at Jake Paul

Anthony Joshua doubled down on his controversial remarks about being prepared to “kill” his opponent during a media gathering in Miami on Wednesday.

These statements were originally stated on the previous day when Joshua was questioned if he would show restraint against Paul, responding that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

Saturday's bout against the internet personality turned fighter has drawn concern over safety concerns and the physical disparity between the two competitors.

Fury Labels AJ a “Disgrace”

Former titleholder Tyson Fury labeled Anthony Joshua a “disgrace” for his extreme rhetoric.

But the 36-year-old fighter, explained his position: “This is my profession, we fight. We have a licence to kill.

“I'm sure many people don't grasp it but this is what my job is. I love what I do. Whatever happens, happens - provided that my hand is raised, that's what's paramount, respectfully.”

He added, “That's just the mentality we have to have as boxers. I don't know if other boxers think that way. Maybe they're a bit more conservative. The way my mind works. When you're in the ring, it's a perilous thing. Anything can happen.”

“You pray your adversary exits the ring in good health, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed aware you just did your job. It was purely professional.”

Jake Paul's Incendiary Response

Paul, a huge underdog in the fight as a career cruiserweight, was equally fiery in his response.

“This is a contemporary combat sport,” he declared. “I'm ready. I want his most powerful punches. I want there to be no excuses when it's all over. Let's kill each other.”

Joshua will face his opponent, in his twenties, at Florida's Kaseya Center in a fight many see as a major mismatched contest, with some suggesting it should have been sanctioned as an exhibition bout.

The professional contest will be contested over eight 3-minute rounds using regular 10oz padded gloves, with a specified weight limit for the former champion.

Joshua Claims He Was “Called In to Rescue” Boxing

Despite the extreme language used, Joshua claimed he has been “brought in to save” the sport of boxing.

“They want me to halt the Jake Paul phenomenon and I comprehend it and that's why I have to bear boxing on my back in this fight,” he added.

The event also had more humorous exchanges, with Joshua smiling as Paul sang a nursery rhyme to him.

The face-off passed without incident, with Paul striking a odd pose before Joshua remained composed and lightly grabbed his necklace.

Both Fighters Dismiss Pre-Arranged Allegations

The surreal aspect of this fight has led to questions about its legitimacy, including suggestions that Joshua may be restricted from knocking Paul out.

“There are no clauses in the agreement, Joshua can confirm it. We're going to war,” Paul insisted.

Joshua, wearing a valuable chain, humorously added, “The only thing in the contract that got my attention was the money.”

Paul has claimed on his platforms that the fight earnings will be exceptionally large.

He has never fought anyone of Joshua's skill level but insisted that his opponent would take him seriously.
