Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say initial examinations show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A senior official said the incident made him without words and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
