Democrats Denounce Trump After He States They Should Face Death Penalty

Democratic officials voiced outrage after the ex-president charged a contingent of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and asserted they should be arrested and sentenced "by death" following their publication of a contentious video.

The Message That Triggered the Dispute

The recorded message, published on earlier this week, includes six Democratic lawmakers who previously served in military or defense positions.

"As we did, you all took an oath to defend and defend this founding document," the lawmakers stated in the short video. "And right now, the threats to our democratic foundation aren't just from abroad, but from domestically. Our laws are clear, you can reject improper directives, you can decline unlawful commands, you should reject improper directives. No one has to carry out commands that violate the law or our constitution."

Donald Trump's Incensed Reply

The clip seemed to trigger a angry reply from the previous commander-in-chief.

On later in the week, Trump published on his social media platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another publication, he declared: "This constitutes really serious, and Risky to our Country. Their comments cannot be enabled to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a subsequent publication, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also reposted a declaration that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Leaders Answer

Following Trump's remarks on that day, Top Democrats issued a combined statement condemning the statements.

"Partisan aggression has no role in this nation," they wrote. "Representatives who appeared in the video all acted our country with tremendous loyalty and excellence. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous calls for execution against elected officials, and call on House Republicans to strongly do the same."

The party representatives also mentioned that they had been in touch with law enforcement "to guarantee the safety of these officials and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must without delay delete these unhinged social media posts and recant his aggressive discourse before he gets someone killed," the statement added.

Officials' Strong Reaction

The lawmakers who participated in the video also released a response.

"We identify as ex-military personnel and security experts who care for this United States and swore an vow to safeguard and defend the founding document of the United States," they said. "This commitment continues forever, and we intend to keep it. No warning, coercion, or incitement will stop us from that important obligation."

"The significant point is that the ex-president considers it punishable by capital punishment for us to reiterate the law," they continued. "Our service members should understand that we have their support as they fulfill their pledge to the constitution and obligation to obey only proper directives. It is not only the correct thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They continued: "All citizens must unite and denounce the ex-president's demands for our execution and ideological conflict. This is a time for ethical certainty."

Further Partisan Responses

The Senate Democratic leader also denounced Trump's comments and posted on social media: "Let's be crystal clear: the former president is demanding the death of government members."

He added: "This constitutes an clear THREAT. Every Senator, every Representative, every American – without partisan consideration – should condemn this right away and absolutely."

The Conservative official supported Trump's claim that the Democrats had participated in "rebellion", labeling the video as "wildly inappropriate", commenting: "This represents very harmful, you have important representatives of the government advising troops to disobey orders, I think that represents without precedent in the nation's past."

The Conservative representative also according to sources informed media outlets that in what he read of Trump's posts, Trump was "explaining the crime of sedition" but that "attorneys have to examine the terminology and decide all that."

Executive Branch Response

During a executive branch meeting on Thursday afternoon, when inquired by a journalist, "Is the president want to execute congressional representatives?", the executive branch representative replied: "No."

"We should understand about what the president is reacting to," the official said. "There are current representatives of the federal government who coordinated to arrange a recorded statement to members of the American armed forces, to current military personnel urging them to ignore the president's lawful orders."

She said: "The purity of our defense system relies on the hierarchy, and if that chain of command is compromised, it can result in people getting killed, it can lead to chaos, and precisely what these elected officials ... are basically supporting."
