Realistically, they'd hope for an contest for the urn in Australia where they still have a chance to reclaim the urn once the opening games are done.

This is not the case this time, though, after Australia's crushing victory by 82 runs in Adelaide left the home side leading three-nil for the fourth consecutive series on their own soil.

England's famous supporters' group, the vocal contingent, have a large group making the journey for the last two matches in the SCG and MCG.

In addition, there are organized trips who will be vacationing overseas, as well as loved ones embarking on a dream holiday.

The Ryding Siblings

A group of four supporters are a prime example.

Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie had their itineraries and entry credentials secured for the Melbourne and Sydney matches "a full year in advance", anticipating a historic English victory.

From afar, they've seen Australia dismantle the tourists in just a short period from their family home in the north of England.

"Everyone at work has been teasing me regarding the concluded contest for the last two weeks," stated Sam Ryding.

"We always thought that we would have a meaningful contest still when we got there."

Fading Positivity

There was plenty of positivity concerning a potential victory of ending their 15-year wait for a series win in Australia ahead of the tour.

Yet now they are looking at the possibility of prolonging a streak without victory in the country to 19 consecutive Tests when the next match starts in Melbourne on Thursday, 25 December.

Ben Stokes' side - and their supporters - will be hoping to sidestep a whitewash.

It was mentioned that the "entertainment" of head coach Brendon McCullum's 'Bazball' in recent years had "renewed interest in" the five-day game for England fans.

Yet the fans said they had realistic outlooks for the final two games - and all they are requesting from the players is "a bit of fight".

"All analysts points it out, but it all comes down to psychological strength. 'The aggressive approach has been elevated to a term now that is just, like, impractical batting," stated Rory Ryding.

"In a five-day Test match, you should apply yourself. Chasing balls 'wide of off stump has never been in the fundamentals, and that is mainly the fault the frontline batsmen."

The Remaining Matches

Prompted about he believed England will secure a victory in this Ashes series, one fan responded: "The evidence suggests the hosts are a stronger side right now."

"There is going to have to be more than one player that delivers for the team and turns the game."

Regardless of the result, the siblings are still looking forward to the trip.

"We will have a fantastic experience anyway," added another sibling. "We have to go with that mindset."

"Obviously it is unfortunate we can't contest the series, but we have invested a significant amount already."

"We will make the most of celebrating the holidays out there. Additionally, it's mine and Rory's first time away from home during the festive period."

An educator, Katie is focused on enjoying the lengthy journey as part of her time off.

"If all else fails, I can play golf to turn to," she finished.
