Israelis have come together around the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-led assault on 7 October 2023, as talks proceeded in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The incident resulted in in excess of 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others abducted away to Gaza as hostages. It was the single most fatal day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel responded by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has killed in excess of 67,000 people, according to the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its numbers are considered reliable by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our aggressive adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not broken us," the prime minister remarked on Tuesday.

He also promised to "achieve all the goals of the war: the return of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will not pose a threat to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The government authorities postponed official memorials until 16 October - after the end of the festive season - but events still occurred across the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the relatives of people killed in the Hamas attack was conducted in the coastal city. Arranged by the families themselves, it was televised on Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was held throughout the country.

Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams convened in the North African coastal city of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of mediated discussions to review the terms of the agreement.

A high-ranking Palestinian official involved in the talks said that an evening round of negotiations started at 7 PM local time.

The representative said the day's discussions concluded without tangible results, amid differences over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to make certain Israel does not resume combat after the first phase of the deal.

He added that the talks are "difficult and have still not achieve any real breakthrough," but mentioned that mediators are working hard to reduce the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Critical Points in Discussions

  • A permanent truce
  • The exchange of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid provision
  • After-conflict governance of the area

Citizen Feeling

In Tel Aviv's memorial area previously, young a woman - whose brother lived through the assault on the Nova music festival, where 378 people were murdered and dozens more were abducted by Hamas fighters - told: "No location appears as home now and until all the hostages return none of us will have peace of mind."

"After we see everybody home returned, we can feel relief again. Then we can start to rebuild," she added.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem, people congregated to show their support for the loved ones of the hostages. Israel reports nearly fifty stay in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be alive.

Protester a participant explained: "We need do whatever arrangement required for the hostages to return. But we sincerely need promises that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that approximately 70% of Israeli citizens want the war to end in exchange for the release of the captives.

Gaza Situation

At the area of Nova festival, mourners assembled to remember the victims.

From that location, the boom of aerial bombardments and artillery could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers said the intense Israeli attacks continued.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were documented in the early hours of that day in the western district, Rimal and locality districts and in the east side neighbourhood of that sector, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"Once the dusk comes, the fear appears with it," relocated urban resident a local woman, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli aerial attack earlier, explained.

"We are terrified of the air strikes. Throughout the evening we are resting together, holding each other, particularly my little child who rests his face on me all night."

"Every second we monitor the updates to see what happened. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be finalized and that the war will come back to us."

Medical Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City announced it had received the remains of several people by the afternoon, including three killed in an Israeli attack in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the south region of Khan Younis said additional victims had been brought there. An individual was killed by Israeli troops while seeking aid to the southern area, medical staff reported.

The region's health ministry said twenty-five of the {territ
