New York Jets Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD issued security footage Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning about halfway between Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a medical center after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a baby.

“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was expected to be an important component of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He later played for Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
