President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the relatives of a Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were âheartbrokenâ.
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their remembrance.
The president stated heâs proposed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
âI said: âWhen youâre able, because thatâs a difficult moment, come to the White House. Weâre going to recognize Sarah,â Trump addressed reporters. âAnd likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.â
Mourners came together over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trumpâs federal initiative to assist policing efforts in the capital.
âSarah was the kind of student that instructors wished for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,â Hankins, the head of Beckstromâs former high school, stated to the media. âShe was sweet, compassionate and always eager to help others.â
Memorial details for Sarah are still being arranged.
Authorities have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder while armed.
The event caused the government to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop providing visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Wolfe, a resident of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is âin a critical fightâ, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on a news program.
The stateâs top lawyer the attorney general told a news show that she planned to meet with Wolfeâs family.
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the state guard.
âShe had a lot of goodness and she definitely had fortitude,â the governor told the crowd at the vigil. âThough her life ended too soon, she has made an impact thatâs going to be remembered always.â
