A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country battling rampant crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the 40-year-old presenter was approached by three suspects, with one shot at him before escaping on foot.

The motive of the shooting remains unclear and no one has been arrested have been made, as per the official statement.

The Fatal Incident

Authorities said that Stock was attacked as he was departing from a building near the Carlton Centre.

He had spent several hours at the building managing the installation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, it was reported.

"Authorities believe the victim was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," a police statement stated.

CCTV footage reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocked hair and wearing what looked like a security uniform firing shots on Stock before running away.

The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.

Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the incident.

Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were discovered at the crime scene.

Call for Public Assistance

Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have have information to assist with the investigation.

"Our information indicates they traveled on foot after the attack, and investigators have been following their trail to find their location," remarked an authority figure.

Outpouring of Grief

His sister, a close relative, said the loved ones are reeling to process his death.

"Words fail me. I am shattered," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He addressed issues courageously about issues not many people were prepared to discuss. This is a devastating blow."

She urged the public to not sharing explicit content from the incident, noting this was an incredibly difficult time, especially for Stock's young family.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that aired on a South African TV network.
