This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.

While perhaps not at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
