Vince Gilligan Discloses He Knows How Pluribus Will Conclude... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would become a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the popular series wrapping up—and Season 2 already in development—the writers' room opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get swayed by the rampant praise and online debates regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to tailor anything,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Has the creator See the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff aren’t being guided by fan response, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to abandon a decent plan for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Of course, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
