NFL 2025 season: Week six
Live coverage features text commentary of Sunday's games via various channels, beginning with Denver Broncos v New York Jets at Tottenham (from 14:00 BST). Additionally, radio commentary can be heard through select stations covering another key matchup (beginning at 9 PM BST).
We're in the sixth week in the football calendar , after last week's discussion about the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles being a potential Super Bowl match-up, they both surrendered their unbeaten records.
Notable in those games was the amount of infractions each conceded. Philadelphia did so in key moments meaning they essentially defeated themselves having led by two touchdowns entering the fourth period versus the Denver Broncos, set to play in London this weekend.
But it proved positive to observe how Denver quarterback the rookie was able to overcome the shortfall before direct three successful possessions in three attempts in the fourth quarter, securing the victory 21-17.
The Broncos have the defensive player of the year in cornerback Pat Surtain II. They rank number one in goal-line defense, while the Eagles lead the league in red zone offence, yet the Broncos prevailed in that battle.
They had effective strategies in terms of simulated pressure. They did not necessarily sending more than four pass rushers but they could position two LBs in the interior before drop them out and send a slot defender off the edge.
Early on of the season, it was noted during a show that the Broncos could be the current year's surprise contenders. They finished last season strongly then excelled of building upon that.
Are the Denver Broncos this season's dark horses?
New TE Evan Engram has excelled big and recent RB JK Dobbins is a guy they believe in. He's currently 5th in the NFL for rushing yards (over 400) and tied for fourth in rushing scores (4).
It's impressive that head coach Sean Payton displays "RUN IT!" at the top on his call sheet.
That shows how Denver are a team aiming to run first, because one can do a lot off the back of that. It reduces opposing rushes and maintains in positive down and distances.
It's also benefited quarterback the young passer, who came into the league as a first-round selection last year, passing for 29 TDs – second only to Justin Herbert for the rookie record (31 in 2020).
Josh Allen and Herbert have powerful arms to pass anywhere, but they lack in the same way as Nix. He has incredible arm talent, a unique trait, and he's highly agile.
His assets are his mobility, being able to throw on the run, as well as using different arm angles to make throws as he moves out of the pocket, on rollouts. He is able to deliver that layered pass across the middle and over the corner.
As a rookie QB, at 25, he's got a lot of composure in the pocket and isn't really fazed by the blitz. He tries to evade being tackled as much as possible and is able pass in tight spots. He has a high football IQ and is very decisive.
If you consistently rush it eats up the clock and makes the opponent to be in play extended periods, and when you have a mobile QB the defense has to defend the area vertically side to side. It can be exhausting.
The quarterback has bitten back with the coach during games at times and I think Payton likes that fire, that he's a fierce rival. I think it's fun for the coach to have a young quarterback that is similar to play-dough. He can truly develop him the way he wants to shape him. I think it's a unique opportunity for the coach.
Payton owns a championship and has passed Bill Parcells for career NFL wins (173 - tied 14th overall). He's seen everything. In my opinion the success the Broncos are experiencing offensively is mostly due to his leadership, his schemes, his game sense – and the combination with the QB aids shape him into who he is.
You wouldn't want a more qualified person guiding you, to assist you through difficult moments and boost self-belief.
I have faith in Denver's defence, in Bo Nix's tenacity and composure. But are they good enough to face an elite team at full strength? Since that was not championship-level play by the Eagles last Sunday.
Currently, it's unlikely Denver are elite. They're performing above average, which is a good place to hold the AFC West. All they need is to continue this path.
They're really good at embracing their forte, that is running the ball, and that's exactly what they must do against the Jets at Tottenham. It will likely be a Dobbins-focused game, in essence.
New York have allowed 140 rushing yards per game (among the worst), five rushing touchdowns so far (in the bottom ten), and they are the sole squad yet to win a game.
Since the NFL began tracking turnovers in 1933, the Jets are also the first team to go without a single takeaway in five outings, which is kind of shocking when you think that the head coach was previously a defensive coach with another team.
Patrick Mahomes stated Kansas City have 'already lost too many games' after a recent loss by the Jaguars.
Following the upcoming matchup, Denver have a manageable slate until their break (in week 12) - the Giants, the Cowboys, Houston Texans plus the Raiders before the Chiefs.
Looking at the AFC West, the Chiefs hold a losing record and the Broncos are tied with the Los Angeles Chargers at 3-2 meaning they could challenge at leading the West.
This hinges on which form Kansas City shows up they face since Denver {beat|def
